Pakistan Seeks Action Against Alliance From Afghan Taliban Over Bannu Cantonment Attack
Islamabad, Pakistan -- Pakistan demanded the Afghan Taliban to act promptly and massively against those who carried out a recent terrorist attack at Bannu Cantonment as it issued severe demarche where we have already facts ready exposed except for some sensitive information which were not mentioned only due to security constraints. The soldiers died when militants from the anti-Pakistan Hafiz Gul Bahadur group based in Afghanistan fired on them as they were constructing new border post along Pakistan-Afghanistan borders.
On July 15, militants tried to breach the perimeter of Bannu Cantonment from four sides during early hours and launched an assault on. Although the attack was effectively repelled by security forces, ISIL members managed to detonate their explosive-loaded vehicle at a point on the wall of the cantonment unit and inflicted serious harm. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement Wednesday said all ten terrorists were killed during the confrontation.
The Deputy Head of the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and conveyed a strong protest on 17 May. In a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO) in Islamabad, the attack launched ostensibly from Afghan soil by Hafiz Gul Bahadur group violates mutual understanding of not allowing use of either side's territory for terrorist activities against each other as well as posing serious danger to peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The FO said the "Bannu attack is a grim reminder of the ever-present threat from terrorism in our region. Pakistan urges Afghanistan to probe into murder of its diplomat and punished the killers so that no such incident could be repeated in future.
Pakistan has consistently raised concerns that enemy Afghan terrorist groups were operating from sanctuary in Afghanistan and selectively attacking Pakistani security forces and innocent citizens. The new decision has been taken after a similar demarche in November 2023, seeking the extradition of Hafiz Gul Bahadur, chief of another faction within the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Pakistan has launched another countrywide anti-terror campaign, Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in the wake of a surge in acts of terrorism. The anticipated operation is expected to tackle a massive increase in terrorist strikes, as the Annual Security report by Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) reported 380 deaths out of 220 injuries only during second quarter of year 2014.
KP and Balochistan, the two provinces that border Afghanistan, have borne the brunt of this violence: 92% of all fatalities and 87% attacks. The report also reveals that 67% of the fatalities were in KP and about 25& took place in Balochistan.
He also appreciated the courage and prompt response of security forces in this respect, stating: "Timely & effective actions by Security Forces prevented a major catastrophe. Saved innocent lives". Their valiant efforts are a testament to Pakistan's unwavering commitment in the war against terrorism.
